The spark for this lyric was set when i saw a flock of Canada Geese migrating south on christmas day in 1986. Somewhat incongruously, "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" made an entrance as well; and so it was the unity of these geese, who innately belonged to each other; and the isolation, even in a roomful of babbling women, of T.S. Eliot's Prufrock, that provided the desired contrast for this song. Recorded 1989, remixed 2016 at The Grey Brick Recording Studio in Lemon Grove, CA

Lyrics

"Totally Out Of It"

Come and take this walk with me
It’s easier to talk when we are walking
We face ahead to look behind
It’s easier to talk when we’re not facing

I thought I’d be in love by now
Thought I’d have a friend who’d be my lover
There must be something wrong with me
Guess I have some demons to uncover

Welcome to the modern world
Be anything you want but happy

Got a brother in Illinois
He works with his hands, he loves his family
Got another you’ll all enjoy
He speaks in tongues, he is so handy

Me, I’m totally out of it
What they believe is opposite from me
Me, I’m totally out of it
Church and state are counterfeit to me

Wild geese fly by me leaving
Down the baja bound for south america
I saw how they belong together
One in mind, wind on feather
And I cried

People standing everywhere
They touch they laugh they dance they act so happy
Throughout my life they come they go
I never learned to talk of Michelangelo
